God Is Able

There were no youth from Cham Yiem in the Sunday services here yesterday. That is the first time in the three months we have been picking them up for church, that none came. We would really like to help the handful of Christians there to grow in the Lord and see others come to Christ. The false teachers are drawing some away. God’s Word warns repeatedly of people teaching error. Pray that God would work in this situation for the glory of His name.

Hubert and I had lunch at McKong Hamburger Shop today with five of the hospital staff. We wanted to talk with them about the Lord there and also have them meet L.  Pray that they would continue to make contact with L. Pray that God would open their hearts to turn to the Truth. Pray that they would come to church.

Please continue to pray for the radio broadcasts. Each Sunday afternoon they go out covering Koh Kong province. Hubert teaches the Bible with a clear explanation of the gospel in each fifteen minute program. It is L’s voice people hear on the recording. We would like to hear of lives changed.

 “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”  Psalm 37:5

Serve the Lord with Joy

This evening some of the hospital staff came to begin a new English class with Hubert. It was fun and we visited awhile afterward. Pray that those who participate would see Christ in us. Pray for wisdom for Hubert as he teaches. Pray that more would come to the class, enjoy the time here, and make good progress in English. Pray that God would use this to help people come to know Him as their Savior.

Please keep praying for Miss L. in Phnom Penh as she works on translating Hubert’s book on doctrine. Hubert wrote it for the use of Cambodian Christians. Working with someone translating such a distance away is a new experiment. Pray as Miss L. also is preparing for an entrance exam to a different university. She is gladly serving the Lord.

Mr. L. is in need of a couple new workers for his ice cream shop now that his sister-in-law and brother who were helping him have just moved to Phnom Penh.  Pray that God will continue to give Mr. L. wisdom in his life, his service for the Lord, and his business. We thank God for him and for his joy in serving the Lord.

Visitation

In between the on and off rains today, God helped Hubert in visiting several special people. At the home of T. who hosted the church during our furlough in 2005, he sat and talked with both T. and her unsaved husband. She long ago stopped coming to church, following the wishes of her husband, but says she still reads her Bible and loves the Lord. When Hubert offered to go teach at their home for just 30 minutes a week, the husband flatly refused. Please pray for them.

Visiting in Cham Yiem he was able to have some conversations about the Lord with a couple men. But one of them had been drinking alcohol so did not have clear thinking. Pray for the people of that town. They need the Lord.

O that people would seek the Lord with all their hearts.

Visiting K., one of the shut-ins, was a joy. He delights to have Christians come and visit and sing with him. He continues to fix cell phones while lying in bed.

Each visit to N. there are more questions that N. asks Hubert. These arise from his conversations with his friends. What does the Bible say about this?  Then he goes back to them with the answers. N. is faithfully serving in church.

Please pray for God’s working in hearts in each of our contacts with people of Koh Kong.

“…As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak.” 1 Kings 22:14

 

Answered Prayer

God does answer prayer. Our Sunday evening services have been running very low in attendance for the past few weeks. It is primarily an evangelistic outreach to the youth in Hubert’s English class. Then yesterday, in response to prayer, God worked and brought a good group, thirteen people. He blessed in the singing, the Bible drill, the message, and the games afterward. Please keep praying that we would see some of these young people accept Christ.

Hubert would like to start a second English and Bible class at our home, especially reaching young men. Please pray for God to send the right students and give wisdom in teaching them. Pray for eternal fruit through it. God is able.

This week Hubert will be taking a trip to Phnom Penh again. Pray for God to help him in his tasks there and give safety.

“The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.” Psalm 6:9

Bible Studies

God’s Word is so precious. It is a privilege to teach it. As we prepare lessons and meditate on God’s truths and how to communicate them effectively, God blesses our hearts. We love hearing the Koh Kong Christians mention their personal devotions in the Scriptures.

It gives me joy to hear some of the Christians comment about the truths they are putting into practice that Hubert has preached in his sermons. They remember the text and God is using it in their lives. During the Sunday School hour Hubert tries to get good participation as the men dig into the Word.  On Wednesday he teaches during both the one pm and the six pm prayer meetings.  Pray for T. as he teaches also on Sunday and L. teaching the Jr. High youth class.  The children are taught Sunday School by S. and I teach them children’s church. In the ladies’ Sunday School class I am taking them through some great lessons geared to help Christian ladies grow.

Then there are the daily Bible studies in our home. I just finished a ten day study with one of our students back from Phnom Penh briefly. Three other young ladies come faithfully each day. Hubert teaches some Bible in his English classes.

Visitation to the shut ins and to T. in her home far away in Koh Pao area are also times to open the Word of God together as well as sing. Thank you for praying.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

Sound Waves

Praise God for our Bible study radio program each week on the local FM statio. Please keep praying for God to use it to work in hearts.

Bouncing sound waves, shades of grays, resolution to differentiate various structures – these are just a few of the basics of ultrasound which I am currently teaching the Cambodian physicians. Then when I am actually doing ultrasound exams on patients, I try to get students into the ultrasound room to get hands on experience. I thank God for the equipment we have to work with.

The hospital has also asked me to teach again on reading ECG’s. My knowledge in that is only very basic, but I am happy to share what I can.

Please pray that God would help me to make the medical material clear in Khmer language and that He would help me be a good witness of His grace.

Hubert has a hobby of amateur radio (ham radio) which he has enjoyed in past years. He is getting back into that now. Please pray that God will help him get his antenna up smoothly. The area around the house here presents many obstacles to accomplishing this task.

Planting

Many people were busy planting rice in Srae Umbel this past week. They bent over transplanting the seedlings so neatly. The growing rice plants in the completed fields were a beautiful green. It was the first time for us to have an outreach in this town three hours from our home in Koh Kong City. There is no fundamental church there that we know of. Hubert and I both went to Srae Umbel on Monday and Hubert returned to Koh Kong on his motorcycle on Tuesday morning. The Srae Umbel Hospital received me warmly. Staff, patients, and the people of the town were friendly. I was able to provide some training for the hospital’s four new doctors, assist in medical consultations on patients, and help with procedures. God provided a guest house for me to stay at. The hospital was about twenty minutes away from the center of town where the guest house was. The hospital staff gave me rides on their motorcycles as they went to and from town. The hospital director invited me to supper with his family several times, and I had lunch in the home of one of the nurses a couple times. One of the most delicious treats was a durian milkshake. I took the bus home on Saturday. God gave many opportunities to share the gospel with many people and give them tracts. Please pray that God will cause the spiritual seed that was sown to grow and produce a harvest for eternity.

L. was also planting the seed of God's Word in Thailand during his two weeks working there (prayer request on 6/27/12 blog).  God also provided for his ice cream shop here in Koh Kong. Pray for God to use His Word in hearts there.

Each Sunday after church, some of the youth and I are visiting the two shut-ins of the church. It is a blessing to minister to them, singing and sharing God’s Word. Please continue to pray for these precious people.

“For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.” Ps. 86:10
