In God I Trust

Thank you for praying for our family. My mother is in rehab now after surgery for her broken hip. She is making good progress. God takes care of His own, there in Michigan as well as here in Cambodia.
Our son and daughter-in-law, Hans and Thuy and their two children, will be leaving Michigan this week to celebrate Vietnamese New Year in Viet Nam. After that they plan to come to Koh Kong. Please pray for smooth journeys for them and a great time for us together.
We are considering doing a mobile clinic up in the mountains February 18 and 19. It would involve two days and one night. Please pray for the preparations for that. We need permission from the village and district. I need to purchase medicines in Phnom Penh. We have a new DVD player on its way here for showing a Christian film. We need to take mosquito nets, food, and all our supplies, and find a place to spend the night there. The river is a challenge to ford. We need to find a 4 wheel drive vehicle to rent. Pray for people from the church to go for evangelism and some hospital staff to do medical consults for patients with me. We need wisdom. If it is God’s will, He will work out all the details, and use it to draw people to Himself.

God's Name Is Great

Praise God for His answers to prayer:
n  At the present time there is peace again in Phnom Penh, the capital city.

n  We had a great visit this past week with our visiting missionary friends showing them some of the ways God is working in Koh Kong.

n  God has been helping me prepare to speak when I go to Thailand next week.

Please pray for peace in Bangkok, Thailand. They are having many demonstrations, and we plan to be traveling through there soon.
Please pray for the new students in Hubert’s English classes. So far, they know very little about God and His Word. We desire their salvation.
Please pray for my mother, Fran Hovingh. A couple days ago she fell and broke her hip. She had surgery the following day. She is 89 years old and lives in Michigan.

In Prayer, Believing

God’s Spirit works in hearts and opens opportunities for us to share the gospel. Please keep praying for people at the hospital to turn to the Lord and be saved. Today I could especially see the hand of the Lord in the encounters He gave. Thank you for your part by prayer.
God helped Hubert during his trip to Phnom Penh last week. He tried to return on Friday afternoon but there was no bus going. If he had, it would have put him close to an area of town where some demonstrations became violent. He came home safely on Saturday. Please pray for peace in the capital.
I am preparing our guest rooms for the visit of two missionary friends for a couple days later this week. They want to see some of the ways God is working in Koh Kong. Please pray for God’s blessing.
Please pray for the planning of a baptismal service for early February.
We mentioned in our last prayer letter the Baptist Mid-Missions OASIS retreat in Thailand for missionaries working in Asia and SE Asia. The dates are January 27-30. Please continue to pray for that. I plan to go a few days early to have time with our youngest daughter, and I have been invited to share my testimony at a prayer meeting. There may be some Thai doctors in the prayer meeting. We want to see God work in lives there too.
