This time of
year is a Buddhist holiday called Pechum Bun. For a couple weeks, Cambodian people
go to many pagodas, often as a family. People visit relatives back in their
home towns. They burn incense before idols and eat special meals offered to
idols. It is a time when Christians, refusing to participate in these things
with their families, stand out. Please pray for God to strengthen them as they
stand up for Him. One new believer, Li., told his father this week that he now
follows Christ, and his father is angry with him. He was not allowed to come to
the Bible studies as before. We don’t know what else his father will do.
Another new Christian, N., knows that this week he must tell his father of his
new faith. He is afraid. When his sister became a Christian almost a year ago,
his father was very angry with her. It is not easy to be different nor to face
angry parents. But God is able to give strength to stand for Him, who is the
way, the truth, and the life.
One of our
faithful Sunday school teachers, S., has decided to do weekend college classes
instead of being in church on Sunday morning. Pray that she would honor the
Lord’s day, and not neglect meeting with the body of Christ on Sunday. We want
to see her do what is right.
