Hurdles

We asked God for a smooth arrival for our new grandson. God chose to show his victories in another way. Hans and Thuy went through the experience of an emergency cesarean section. Praise God for Peter Thien An Broeckert’s birth on October 24. Praise God for good medical care. Baby and mommy are doing well; so are daddy and the two older siblings. Thank you for praying and please continue to pray for her recovery.    

God answered prayer for a good English class party Saturday night in spite of hurdles. I was called to the hospital three times plus had one medical emergency at our house as we were preparing everything Saturday. Many of the students are fairly new. There were 22 at the party. Please pray for God to work in their hearts and save them.

The Baptist Mid-Missions medical team, organized by Dr. Joy Anglea, is preparing to come January 2015. Please pray for the volunteers God is calling out and for our getting things ready here in Cambodia.  

Thank you for praying for O. Please keep on. When her family pressured her to deny Christ, she succumbed to them and told them she is not a Christian. Is she like the seed that sprang up on rocky ground and in time of testing withered? She still comes to English class, church, and Bible study.

“…Let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

 

I Will Answer

A young man from Koh Kong, W., will be finishing his university studies in Phnom Penh in a couple weeks. Please pray for God to provide just the right job for him. He does not know if God has something prepared in his line of studies back here in Koh Kong or up in Phnom Penh. We would love to have him back here in Koh Kong and serving God in the church here again. Pray also that God will provide a wife for him in His time.

Thank you for praying for the pro-life sessions. The teaching went smoothly, the transportation went smoothly, and in all we were so aware of God’s answering prayer. We pray lives will be saved as a result. I need the Lord’s guidance as I continue to discuss God’s standards and God’s forgiveness to the hospital staff who heard the message.

Our son and daughter-in-law, Hans and Thuy, are anticipating the arrival of their third child very soon. Please pray for a smooth delivery. They are in Michigan.

We thank God for letting us serve Him here in this corner of the world. We appreciate our local church which sent us out. We are also grateful for Baptist Mid-Missions which exists to facilitate local churches sending missionaries. They do a lot for Hubert and me and for the many churches and missionaries which use their services. About two weeks ago the mission unveiled a new, upgraded website: www.bmm.org.  I want to encourage everyone to view it and be introduced to the work that God is doing through Baptist Mid-Missions around the world.

Hubert is in Phnom Penh Monday and Tuesday this week to get books printed. I anticipate traveling to Trat, Thailand, on Wednesday to pick up Mr. and Mrs. Burgess. Please pray for God's working through their pro-life ministry here with us in Koh Kong on Thursday. We pray people will understand more about God and his offer of new life in Christ. Friday I expect to take them back to Trat to catch their flights out.  Living on the Thai border, Trat airport is much closer than Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital.

Abide and Ask

In this harvest field we continually seek new opportunities to share the Good News of Christ. Mr. & Mrs. Burgess coming from the USA to speak next week on the topic of pro-life may put us in contact with new people to hear and perk the attention of some people I work with every day at the hospital. Pray that God will guide in their travels, in the presentations, in the translators, in bringing many people to hear, in not having hard rain at the times they are speaking (that makes it hard to hear), and in continuing to work in hearts for a long time after they leave. Pray for lives to be changed. We are anticipating seeing God do great things.

Mr. L’s hamburger shop is short staffed right now. Pray for God to provide the right workers. It is a place where the gospel goes out and God is honored. Mr. L. is now preaching twice a month in the Sunday morning service as well as teaching Bible studies and the children’s Sunday School. Pray for protection and wisdom for this faithful man of God.

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John 15:7

 

 

Pressure

God continues to be proclaimed in our home, at the hospital, and in homes of Cambodians. Praise the Lord for those who are listening. Pray for them to respond to Christ’s invitation for salvation. This afternoon I went to the pharmacy of a friend (SV.) and sat and visited with her and her mother whom I have known for a long time. SV. is sometimes interested in knowing more about the Lord and sometimes not. Today she asked to know more. But there were interruptions. Pray that God will use his Word that she heard and speak to her heart.

One of Hubert’s English students who has been studying the Bible here for several months made her decision on Saturday to receive Christ. She joyfully told her friends that she had become a Christian. Sunday she did not come to church. Today, Monday, she tearfully talked to me after the English class and said her foster parents insist she recant her faith in Christ. They are pressuring her. They want her to remain Buddhist. Please pray for O.

God's Church

We had a great Sunday morning service. Mrs. T. was back for the first time since her illness. Continue to pray for a full recovery. Three Koh Kong students who are now studying in Phnom Penh were back because of the Khmer holidays. One of them helped me in teaching the children’s church. A Christian physician and his wife from Malaysia visited. They are in Koh Kong for a couple days but are working in another province. Continue to pray for Koh Kong Baptist Church to grow and be strengthened in the Lord.

At our hospital, we have two new Australian volunteers who will begin this week. Please pray for God to work in their hearts to turn to the Lord. Pray for wisdom as I work alongside them as well as with the Cambodian medical staff.

Pro-Life

We have invited Mike and Vickie Burgess from Washington to come to Koh Kong October 15-17 to teach about protecting the lives of the unborn. They have a ministry of teaching what God’s Word and science has to say about life, as well as the forgiveness that is available from the Lord Jesus for those who have done an abortion.  Please pray for God to guide us in preparations for their coming—arranging the audiences, places, and translators, and logistics of their travel. Pray for them as they travel and present Pro-Life in various SE Asian countries before and after coming here to Koh Kong. Pray for lives to be impacted, people to turn to Christ, and God’s name to be glorified in all. 

Thank you for praying for Li. His father is not as angry with him anymore about becoming a Christian, but he prohibits Li. from coming to study the Bible days other than our Sunday evening one hour church service.
